Typhoon, Specialist in Stirring & Mixing Technology

History

Typhoon can look back over a rich history and has numerous innovations to its name. For example, Typhoon was the first producer to install its stirring systems excentrically in mixing silos, resulting in improved product quality and faster processing times. Even during the last century, systems were manufactured with cantilevered axles of up to 14 metres in size, whereas at present their size can be as much as 20 metres. From its extensive experience, Typhoon has developed many types of stirring elements that generate an effective interplay of forces.

Typhoon’s history dates back to the year 1946, when its first factory was set up in Amsterdam. In 1954, the company moved to Diemen. This production unit was then known in the market as MKT (Machinefabriek Koelewijn Typhoon). The company manufactured mixing systems on a full-time production basis and the name Typhoon became associated with this. In 1965, the company set up in Amsterdam again as a sales organisation of MKT trading under the name of Unimix Procestechniek.

It was not until 1983 that the activities of MKT and Unimix Procestechniek became concentrated at the premises in Weesp, in the building that MKT had first occupied back in 1978. At this time, the company traded only under the name of Unimix. For these reasons, the market referred to the company as the ‘Unimix Stirring Works’.

In 1989, a merger took place with Martens. The merged company Typhoon-Martens, with its main address in Raamsdonksveer, specialised across the board in fluid handling. That seems to have been a success formula, but it soon became apparent that this success was at the expense of the retail mixing and stirring technology in terms of both equipment construction and process technology. In 1995, a demerger of the company was agreed on. Since then, Typhoon has continued to develop on its own within its own chosen field.

At present, Typhoon is a leading name in the field of mixing and stirring technology with a strong market position in the Benelux countries and with exports to all five continents. The company continues to be characterised by its innovative urge and pioneering spirit. Since 1990, the company has been based in the Dombosch industrial zone in Raamsdonksveer.

In 2005, Peter Ordelmans and Roderik Hol took over the helm at Coen Decnop and Typhoon’s ambitions took a further step up. Certification in accordance with NEN-EN-ISO 9001:2000 represents an important boost in quality. Typhoon is now viewed as a front-runner in the field of ATEX apparatus, built in accordance with the European Directive for safety in explosive environments.
